Fish for Fortune (2025)
Frame-by-frame looping animation, 75 frames, 5 seconds.
Fish for Fortune is a short, hand-drawn animation created for my animation class. The piece depicts a fisherman offering a fish to a maneki-neko (Japanese lucky cat), hoping to receive good fortune in return. The animation plays as a seamless loop, symbolizing the cyclical nature of luck, ritual, and superstition. By combining urban scenery with a folkloric symbol of prosperity, the work explores how small acts of belief, whether serious or humorous, can reflect humanity’s desire to influence fate.
